Nav sometimes on't allow me to enter a street number

I have an 05 A6 and I've been geting lost in DC several times, the nav will let me put the street name in, then lets me select NW,NE,SW,SE but some streets it will not allow a street number.
I'm not sure if I need new maps, an MMI upgrade or this is just a flaw with the nav unit.

Any ideas?
