Need a smaller XM unit for my Alpine IVA D900.. Can I.....

cutoff the wires going from the two connectors and attach them to a new Terk XM receiver? Is there something special about the two wires. I would be careful to ring out the wires but if the new Terk XM receiver had different connectors how would I know which one goes to which Alpine plug.
The XM is on the left and the GPS is on the right.

All of my Stuff is going into a TT, which as you know already is ....
5lbs of .. in a 3lb box. I am installing an Alpine IVA D900 audio/video system where the radio goes. This unit also has a brain unit, NAV DVD player, XM unit, and ipod unit. All of which need to get hidden.
The brain goes behind the driver seat stood vertically, the NAV player goes in footwell behind passenger seat. The XM unit goes between firewall and passenger dash stuff. The ipod unit goes in the position the UK fuse box is on the passenger side of the car.
The TT also has two vents up on the upper flat part of the dash. The right vent has an open spot where the UK front speaker goes. I am placing the mini xm receiver there. Others have just recently done so with good results. The left vent has a speaker located there. I plan to place the GPS receiver over the speaker.
When done I should have a pretty stealth looking installation. The only problem is that the Alpine unit is just a tad too long to allow the aluminum radio flap to close. It hits the volume/on/off ****. I am hoping to be able to remove the **** and machine it down to close.
My TT is an 01 model that came with prewiring for a phone. I am going to install a charger for my BT Blackberry and power it from this OEM setup and hopefully have it tied in such that my Alpine system will mute when the phone gets a call. I had this working with the OEM radio at one time with an older phone. The Alpine unit does have a wire for phone muting.
Probably alot more than you wanted to know.
