Greetings from New England. I'm looking for some help planning a trip to Houston for a meeting. My company is paying, but I want to go more than they want to send me, so cost is a factor. I can get a cheap flight (>$350) if I stay an extra night, so I plan to fly in on Wed, Sept 24, stay over, meet on the 25th, and fly back early in the AM on the 26th. My meeting is right down town.

What is the smartest and most economical? Stay near the airport or somewhere out of town and drive or car or bus in? Stay right down town and walk? I'd like to avoid renting a car, if possible.

Thanks for any ideas.

houston is a wide city , large , if you have bussines in downtown than you should be in that area, that will be my opinion , about travel in city i can`t tell you anything, i am in houston since may this year. wed i get out of work at 4 pm , but is traffic until 6.30-7pm , we can meet for a talk show you the city and maybe we can change some brakes, rotors) just kidding, be safe!

are right downtown, within walking distance of most places. I live and work downtown and the city center isn't that hard to move around in my walking. plenty of options.

If staying downtown I'd personally avoid the ClubQuarters although it's fine and plenty close to the Flying Saucer bar - but the Alden and a few of the other unique places right in that area give you easy walking for all of downtown.

I live and work quit near there and can help too if you need further recommendation. Knowing which building you need to spend your time would be most useful.
