'01 Bose Concert Radio Question - New one sounds better, but...
My tape player on my OEM radio sucked itself in (without a tape in it) and would not come out. Audi ordered a replacement radio under warranty. I do have the Bose option on my '01 car (Bose labels on the door speakers).
I got the new radio installed today. I do have to say I always thought my original radio sucked. I would be embarrassed to have my name on it if I were Bose. It did not have any base, and did not "turn up" very loud, even at max volume.
So, I turn on the new radio, and it sounds GREAT. It has more bass at "0" than the old radio did at "+5".
So then I go in to start fiddling with the GALA settings and such. I get to the last one, which is for the integrated phone systems, and it DOES allow me to select R and L. This does appear on my new radio. However, the manual clearly states that this option does NOT exist on Bose radio systems. In addition to that, I could have sworn that the fader/balance/bass/treble settings on my original radio only went from -5 to +5. On the new radio, it goes from -15 to +15. Finally, I thought that my old radio displayed "BOSE" on the display when you turned it on, the new one does not.
Now, I like the new radio. I do think it sounds MUCH better than the original. Also, from all I can tell from the photos on my Fotki, the face plate and buttons are IDENTICAL between the two...
I am not complaining, but I am wondering. Is the new radio a Bose? Is there any way to tell? If it is not a Bose, will it hurt the 2 [edited] ohm Bose speakers if it is a non-Bose radio?

When they replaced mine, it initially did not say Bose either. The fader also worked. I asked if they had put the wrong radio in. They took it back and said that they had incorrectly programmed it when they put it in. They reprogrammed it and it was "good" as new. I wonder if they programmed yours for a newer car?
