01 tt quattro cooling
Hi I bought a tt quattro a couple months ago with about 65000 miles and the temperature gauge reads one mark past center when it is warmed up... it never goes past this mark or fluctuates in any way but I was wondering what could be causing this? Thermostat?

Could be..
...T-stat but I would bet water pump is falling apart. It's a crappy piece of plastic.

Re: could just be temp sensor or bad cluster.
Where is the temp sensor located? Is it near the thermostat? I think I will go ahead and get the green top sensor just to eliminate that as being a posibility.

Details...
If it still has the original black top temperature sender, very good chance it's bad.

Not really near the thermostat, no. The thermostats in the 1.8T typically fail in the open position (like mine did) which causes overheating when stuck in traffic and running too cold while driving. They don't always get stuck in the open position however so you can't completely rule it out.
Could also be the water pump... if your timing belt/water pump hasn't been changed yet - DO IT NOW!

You can use the HVAC controls method to confirm your temps...
Use the link to get to WAK's page. What you're going to be looking for is block 49. It contains your coolant temperature which should be hovering around 90'C...that's a rough average. Find out what you're running at, do a conversion from C to F.
Mine (and several others) run anywhere from 189-196'F per HVAC and Scangauge.

http://www.wak-tt.com/tt/climatecontcodes.htm

Re: 01 tt quattro cooling
I'm pretty sure that it is a bad cluster! When the engine is warmed up the hvac is reading 84 C but the gauge is still reading the mark past center. I also read somewhere that audi will replace your cluster if you have a bad gauge for free... has anyone else heard this?
