180 TT vs. the 350Z comparo...
Stopped by Nissan tonight and parked my blue TT next to a white 350Z for comparison.
Four salesmen gathered around--it was a slow night at the dealership--and we talked differences/similarities.
1. The 350Z is a bigger car. The flared wheel wells give it a more aggressive stance. The larger body handles 18" wheels very well.
2. Their height is about the same, but the 350z looks and is significantly longer and has a longer wheelbase.
3. The 180 TT is a sporty car (or a sports/GT hybrid); the 350z more a sports car (no rear seat; 287 hp., est. 180 mph. top speed; less trunk room).
4. The advantages of the TT (which Nissan calls style over substance): a classier look ("schlicht" in German) overall. There's a soupçon of vulgarity to the 350z (which many will find enticing, no doubt--and I do too. :-( Its muscle-car heritage not to be denied.
5. The TT is rounded where the 350Z is angular, especially the head- and tail lights.
6. More horizontal rear window requires a wiper and it has one.
7. My TT is unspoilered--as is the 350z. Nissan spoilers available as a mod.
8. The least expensive model 350z with cloth seats will cost a lot less my the 180 TT did three years ago.
9. Too early to predict reliability issues, but Nissan is basing some of its parts on successful proto-types.

interiori mpressions...
The 350Z was locked per buyer's instructions so we could only peer through the windows. There's a 10" subwoofer behind the driver's seat (alas, a Bose system). There are nice touches in the 350z. The stalks or stems--black and aluminum--on the steering post are very well done. Round ***** as in the TT. Aluminum touches here and there. I didn't like the three conical dials in the center of the console that are angled towards the driver. The shifter and brake reminded me pleasantly of the RX-7 (though not as severe). There are too many "Zs" used as decoration: some serious debadging would be in order. The windows function like the TT's.

that's what I thought when saw pictures....way too many name badges...
Those dials looked kind of interesting. Someone was telling me one is for tire pressure?
Thanks for the recon.

Quality over quantity. The TT is high-end image. The 350z is..well, a Nissan. Ten years from now...
The TT will be a classic high-end car that screams style and engineering. The 350Z will be forgotten and be bought used and cheap for a kids car.

#1) A 'Vette cannot do 180 mph...
and there is no way stock 350Z will break an honest 160 mph (C&D got a true 156 mph, aerodynamic drag limited, out of one, however).
#2) (for the guy down-thread) the 350Z is not underrated from the factory (horsepower wise). If anything, given the performance numbers, it is slightly overrated.
#3) Where are you guys getting this over-hyped information?
#4) All that notwithstanding, the 350Z is a great car, all things considered (opinion).
