Default 1st speed alarm won't reset

I have 1 2001 225 Roadster. The 1st speed alarm keeps resetting itself after I cancel it. Maybe I am reading the instruction manual incorrectly? I read that you are supposed to press on the left button for a few seconds until a line apeears through the display. Please advise what I am doing wrong.
Thanks

Default My best recollection regarding the "modes" of that button:

TT is PARKED
Tap the button to see the date/time and mileage.
Hold the button in to change the date/time

TT is Moving
Tap the button and accidentally enable the speed alarm.
Hold the button to erase the accidentally set alarm.

Does that sound right?
