Default 3.2 Day Two -- and a developing rattle that sounds like a heat shield...

Turned 300 on the odometer today. Is this noise normal? Abnormal? A.B. Normal? STFA'd, and it wasn't specifically helpful to our new-car scenario. What would you do? Take back to dealer today or wait until after the weekend drive (300 mile RT)? TIA and wish us happy miles!

The heat shield thing wouldn't stun me at all.

If the rattle has a ping to it, go ahead and start your car up, and pop the hood, see if you can muffle the pings by putting your hand on (be sure your car is cool, and you keep away from moving stuff) any easy to reach shields. I found a rattle on my car like this, it was obviously no big deal, a couple of turns fixed it, I'd say you're safe to take that trip, even if you can't tighten it, if you can narrow it down to a heatshield, you can just worry about it later!

Follow your ear, if it leads you to something that you don't know, take it in or post on Audi World, that's what I do. hahaha.

Nice car and enjoy your trip!

Default Thanks! Good advice...

This sounds metallic and vibrates. I also had an A/C clutch on a 1.8T VW make a similar sound, very misleading.

Yah, the car's awesome. A dream come true. In short, diggin' it!

Default Two potential things to look at...>>

Both have cropped up on 3.2's.

1) Some early cars had read brake assemblies put together wrong causing a noticeable rattle there.

2) The "Flapper" valve for the exhaust (right rear) sometimes rattles. Most just defeat that and keep it open. Search on " Flapper Valve Mod"

Default Funny! My '02 was silent, except for the squeak from the seatback against the bulkhead...

We'll see what we've got going here. Rattles are a pain! But so far, the dash is silent... crossing my fingers, man!
