ABS and ESP Warning Lights

ABS and ESP Warning Lights
Hey Folks,
T'other night as I was heading home I noticed that my ESP and ABS warning lights had come on. Puzzled, I stopped the car, turned it off and restarted. At first both were off, but after I got up to speed they came back on. That was Saturday night, and since then they have not come back on. I assume there was a sensor fault (some shared sensor between the two systems). It was a cold night and the car had been parked in a snowy parking lot, in case that might have something to do with it...
I'm taking the car in for service in the near future anyway, and I'm adding this to my list. But I'm worried that, since they have stopped coming on, the dealer will just say "I didn't see any lights when I drove it around the parking lot."
Any thoughts about what the issue is likely to be, and whether or not the diagnostic computer will have saved fault codes for this sort of fault?
Thanks!

A faulty sensor will show up on their computer and also vag-com if you have it....
I had a lateral accelleration sensor go out and was able to diagnose the specific component as failing w/vag-com.
