AC Control Unit noise

AC Control Unit noise
I've searched the archives on this to no avail, so here goes...
I have an ALMS TT w/about 10k miles on it. Since I got the car the AC control unit has made this fan/motor noise. I thought it was coming from right behind the little air intake vent on the front of the unit (above the temp display) however, I had the AC head unit replaced ($800 part!) and the noise is still there. It's quiet enough not to be loud, but loud enough to be annoying.
I thought it may be the trim making contact with the unit, but I can't find anywhere that's happening. It always happens when the car is on, moving or not. I haven't seen a significant difference in the noise if the car is cold/warm/hot. Any suggestions on what else it might be?
Thanks!

Hopefully you had Audi replace that for you, and not out of your pocket
OK, stupid question...does the noise exist when you turn the climate control system off?
Can you describe the noise?

Mat Reid at AoA replaced it - who else!? :)
The noise exists regardless of the unit being on or off. When it's on it sounds the same no matter what temperature air it's pushing or if the compressor is on or off.
The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a fan motor or like a faded sound of a playing card whipping through the spokes of a bicycle wheel.

I have noticed this noise also. Doesn't matter if the AC/Heat is on or off. Question for you...
Right after you turn the car off do you hear the noise winding down? Sort of like a fan spinning down to a stop.

So I'm not alone!
I spent hours trying to track this )(#*+@#'in noise down, thinking that I had introduced while working on my cell phone install.
Sometimes it goes away for a while if I whack the center console hard on the right side.
I will mention it at my next service visit, which will be to fix the right side marker, which spontaneously broke last week.

Buzzing?? You sure your dash lights are turned all the way up???
It's worth a check.
There is an anoying buzzing if it's not. There is a TSB out on it. I plan to wait until I'm almost out of warrenty to get the new cluster the TSB calls for.

what is the cluster buzz?
heh - I haven't tried whacking the right side of the console to see if that takes care of the problem
Does it sound like a mini-fan motor to you? Maybe the thermostat fan?
