advantages/disadvantages to big brake kits on front and rear?

CapEx 05-02-2004 07:14 AM

I have Brembo GT on the front of a 225 coupe and

use the OEM brakes on the back with Mintex pads. I did this because I do a lot of track driving.

Advantages - no brake fade on 30 minute track runs; option to brake very late if I want; very easy to change pads.

Disadvantage - fewer wheel options that will clear the big brakes; on the street I can stop too fast for cars behind me.

IMO, no need to change the rear brakes from the 225 OEM given the balance of the car. On the 180 I know several guys who upgraded to the 225 rear brakes.

If I did not do the track driving I would not do the upgrade.

I have the same setup like yours but drilled discs on the rear to match the look to the front.

Yours are too clean!

since it retains the stock calipers then brake bias shouldnt be affected correct?

just more surface area for cooling?

hehe they still look small under those wheels

now that ive swapped to my sls, the stoptechs look like they have grown.

i gotta go take some pics

TTschwing 05-02-2004 10:44 AM

LOL..Yeah, they do still look small but...>>

In comparison to stock, NOT!

I had just done the install and hadn't even driven the car when I took that pic...:-)

Drove it last night to bed in all the pads! 1,000 mile trip planned in 2 weeks....don't worry!

MOBlueTT 05-02-2004 12:00 PM
