Advice needed: shade tree mechanic tackles oil sump replacement
As I smashed the pedal swerving around the twist-ies with joy, I once again noticed the sign reading 'Danger Rockslides' and 'Watch For Falling Rocks'. Having been born and raised in the flat open mid-west, the only vision in my head was that of Willey-Coyote pushing an 8ft boulder down a mountain with he RoadRunner underneath. Surely, if I see that I'll just drive around it I thought in my mind.
As I make the next 180 turn, I look in horror as the road is covered with basketball sized rocks covering both lanes as far as the eye could see.
'CLUNK' - 'POW' - 'THUD'
The oil sump took the brunt of the damage, causing a fine crack circled in the pics. So now the task is to remove and replace the sump, along with the smashed oil temp sensor? also pictured. I have never done this before so any advice would be helpful. I have the repair CD and it appears simple enough, although it doesn't show the oil temp sensor on the bottom of the pan.
? Any show stopping tools I need to get - I have the basics ?
? Anything special about removing and installing oil sensor ?
Does it have a gasket or need sealant?
? Apply silicone sealant D 176 404 A2 when installing ?
Can I use another sealant instead of buying the expensive Audi part, is there an equivalent to look for in the auto parts store?
? Anyone care to offer part numbers or expected prices to verify ?
There are so many numbers on the both the sump and sensor that I can't tell which are the part numbers. Any suggestions on most economical place to get parts?

Thanks for any help you can offer. Will post pics of work in progress as I go along.
