and wax but thought this time I would try clay. Washed car and while still wet used a strong soap and water mix and boy it was easy and I just could not believe how much crap came out of a "pampered" car and how smooth the paint is. If you have been like me and a little shy to use it, trust me, just do it.

Default Thank you for this post

I have been a little hesitant to say the least and I take care of my car very well, but I think I have been inspired now and I am going to try this, and then afterwards put on a really nice coat of wax.

Thanks again!

Default Mother's has a kit at most auto parts places - but you

don't really need the spray stuff they sell with it. Just put some soap and water solution in a spray bottle and use the clay. I tried to find just the clay at several places but I could find nothing but the kit. You can buy clay by itself at some online places like Griot's I think.

Default Claying is a needed step!

To demonstrate how much crap is on the surface of your paint (especially if you have not polished recently), clay part of your hood, then run your hand across- compare to an unclayed part of the hood. Notice how smooth and clean the clayed part feels!

Works wonders on the little mystery black spots, etc that appear on the finish...

I use Griot's, they even have a pad to use along with an orbital polisher, makes the work even easier! Don't forget a lubricant- soapy water works, but a spray like Griot's Speed Shine works great... (I have no affiliation with Griot's just like their products)

http://www.griotsgarage.com/search.jsp?searchtext=clay&search.x=9&sear ch.y=1
