Default After years of stalking this forum I'm finally taking the leap (long).

I was inches away from buying a TT three years ago but days before we were supposed to take delivery we found out we were going to have a baby so there went that idea - ended up with an A62.7T that has been an amazing car.

Now the lease is up on the A6 and I realized that whenever we go anywhere with the kids we use our '05 Durango anyway so why not go for the TT. I pitched that logic to my wife never expecting it to fly. Her response: "Ooooohhhhh yeeaaaahhh"! That's my wife. She would be the primary driver so I told her to pick the color combo she wanted and I'd find it. Her first choice was Brilliant Red with Vanilla leather. Second choice was Black with Vanilla leather. After calling around and posting an inquiry here in the forum I found out there are no red/vanilla anywhere in the country and only two black/vanilla (Montana & Georgia).

Side note: We live in Hawaii and instead of paying the local dealer monopoly prices we ship all of our cars from the mainland saving thousands of dollars even after the $950 shipping charge. Example: I saved $6,000 by buying my A6 in Pasadena and shipping it here.

The dealer I was working with in CA didn't see the two black TT's so he missed out on the sale. Fortunately, Jay Horton (MoreBoost!)at Tracy Audi in Massachusets saw my post here and has helped me put everything together. (Thanks Jay!)

We're about to sign our papers for this 3.2 DSG in Montana with Bose, Premium Pkg and 18" wheels.

If all goes as planned, in about 2-3 weeks we're going to fly there and take it on a 4-day road trip exploring Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho before dropping the car off at the dock in Tacoma.

Thank you all so much for the intelligence (usually!) and humor (always) in this forum. You've helped me conclude that I absolutely had to have one of these beautiful cars before they stop making this model.

I'm usually not much into modified cars and have always chosen to buy the best the factory offers and leave it alone. However, you've made me change my mind! Here are a list of minor mods I plan to do right away:

Paint brake calipers
Paint engine covers
Swap plastic paddle shifters for aluminum
Swap out OEM brake pads (I despise brake dust!)
Tint to 35% (max allowed in HI)

I've used the forum search and answered a lot of my questions there but I still have some that I haven't seen any definitive answers on yet:
1. Where can I purchase the aluminum paddle shifters?
2. What are the best brake pads I can buy with the least amount of brake dust? I've seen all different kinds mentioned here.
3. What is the best source for engine cover paint and brake caliper paint? (both in red)
4. Are there any cool shifters out there that work with the DSG?
5. What are some "Must See" stops in WY, MT, and ID?

Thanks again for all of the great advice I've received here anonymously. This is truly the best TT forum I've found.

P.S. Any TT forum members here on Oahu?

Default Congrats!!!

After all, you did buy the fastest color!!

I have 2 kids, 5 and almost 7 right now and they love to ride in the TT with Dad. Gets hard to contain myself with constant requests for "faster" but I keep it sane. My only worry would be that beuatiful white leather and it's future with the kids(s).

Enjoy, it's impossible not too.

Trent
P.S. Not from Oahu but that would be one hell of a GTG!!

Default We're moving to the Big Island this month.

TT and (2.7T) S4 - you're on Oahu, I take it?

Congrats on the new ride!

Default Some answers to your ?'s

1. I think only a VW dealer can get the R32 metal shift paddles at this time. There was talk of making some, but IIRC, it fell through.
2. I got PBR ceramics. They are low dust, but I get some squeaking. May have been my installation, don't know...
3. Engine cover paint can be any paint. Does not need to be high temp. Caliper paint, get G2 at Tire Rack (or another source). Go through the hassle of completely removing the calipers - it results in a much nicer job.
4. Can't help you...
5. Can't help you here either...

WELCOME to the TT family!

Default Just awesome!

Your post was definitely a good read! I'm glad you found it useful (usually) and funny (always). Seems to be a good group of people here! I'm glad you were able to get yourself a TT! I may be biased, but they're great cars! hehe

I wish I could help you on your questions a bit more. But the only thing I can really say is that I've heard decent things baout Mintex red box pads. Supposedly low dust and they work well.

I wish you much luck! And good twisties on Oahu?

Default Wow. that's a great story. And I love the black/'nilla combo!

Have fun on your trip! And drive the TT more often--that 13MPG on the Durango is killing the planet. )

Default I had a '98 Durango with a 5.9L and Chrysler did something amazing...

They gave the new top line Hemi engine in the '05 Durango about 75 more horsepower than my old Durango but I get the same gas mileage. While that's quite the engineering accomplishment the mileage still sucks! Sure is fun to take to the beach though!
