Default All this talk of MAF's...Can someone explain>>>

I have had my car since September, I have done the following engine mods:

Dahlback Chip
Dahlback DV
Neuspeed CAI
Boost Machine

I have done pretty well with PSI, but wonder if since my car now has 78K on it....should I get a refurb MAF and replace for the heck of it?

Car seems fine, just wondering if it would feel better with a replaced MAF...???

And now the big question, How does one go about installing a MAF??? Hard or easy???

Default I don't know if....

you'll really get any benefit if it's not sick. Before you replace it, I'd just spray the sensor with a non-residue electronics cleaner. If you do buy a MAF, get a refurb one from the dealer. About $80. If you need the part number let me know, I've got it.

Also, for how to take one out, look at my Fotki under the BAMM install folder and you'll see how to take out the whole housing and the sensor.
If you're replacing the whole thing with a refurb, it'll come with a sensor and you won't need to remove it from the housing.

Super easy install.

Default I'd agree with Sal on this....

you may want to have one on standby anyhow as you're probably on borrowed time at 78k. Also, if it does act up, spray it with the cleaner first, then replace it if that doesn't work.

Just go to an autoparts store and ask for a non residue spray electronics cleaner.

Default Check the flow on block 32 with a VAG tool, and report back what you get.

My car didn't report any problems, but my MAF registered 140 g/s flow, when it should have been 180. With the new MAF, the air fuel mixture is much leaner (closer to correct, I was WAY rich before) and there is more power to be had. If you are running rich (got sooty pipes?) I bet your MAF is on the way out.
