Default For all of those concerned with their Air/Fuel mixtures on the dyno....

What APR told you about the A/F ratios is ABSOLUTELY true! When you are using a tailpipe sniffer, it is very innacurate for *real* a/f ratios for tuning or analyzing. The only true way to get a reading is to drill a hole in the downpipe and weld a bung (no Beavis jokes) for an O2 sensor that is similar to the stock but is much more sensitive and samples more often....

Anyone looking for real #'s or one off tuning MUST get one of these bungs welded in, there are a few places that have dynos that will not even put your car on unless you have this done.

So relax, your A/F ratios are probably not as bad as you think.

thanks for the info, sean -- any other ways to get an accurate air/fuel reading?

Default no.....not really

even a A/F ratio gauge is only as accurate as the o2 sensor it is getting the reading from....A/F is good for full throttle rich/lean reading but not for *EXACT* ratios. As far as I know, the only way to get true readings are by the way I mentioned.

Any idea of a %age of variation between the 'bung' and 'up the tail pipe' scenarios?

Default hmmm.... not off hand but heres an idea!!

we are going to bring my boyfriends Nova down to be dyno'd here within the month....

His car is fitted with speed-pro fuel injection with a wide band O2 mounted in the correct location. We can hook up the laptop and monitor the A/F ratio off the wide band and compare it to the tailpipe reading taken by the sniffer for you guys.

Can't you just hook up a lap top with a VAG tool and have someone meter it when driving?
