Another article with some of Audi's responses to Stern Magazine (more/long)
AFX News -- October 6, 1999
"Audi denies report that TT models reveal serious undercarriage problems
Frankfurt (AFX) -- Audi AG said a report in Stern magazine that its TT sports car models have revealed 'serious undercarriage problems' which can lead to accidents when breaking at high speed corners is incorrect.
According to the summary of an article to appear in Thursday's edition of the weekly magazine, if the models are driven into a corner at hight speed and then the brakes applied, this can result in the tail of the car swinging out into the road.
The four wheel drive TT model is particularly problematic here, the magazine said.
'This is not a failure of the product, but it is a problem for some of the owners,' a spokesman for the company said, pointing out that the car was built to drive more like a racing car.
'We are convinced, we have created a sporty feel (to the car), but not every customer finds this pleasant,' Audi technical division chairman Werner Mischke told the magazine.
For owners who do not like the way the car drives, Audi will offer to fit stabilizers 'which make the car more pious,' the spokesman said, but added that this option will not be available until later this year.
In addition, as of December, Audi is to introduce a new ESP stabilization program in all TT models, which gives added security when braking.
'We have been preparing this already over the last six to nine months,' the spokesman said.
However, for technical reasons, it is not possible to add the EPS system to models which have already been sold, Mischke told the magazine."

I don't want my 180FWD to be more "pious" -- maybe the first FWD's will become collector's items because we don't have this piety...just kidding. Den
