Anybody know what happens to your insurance when you drive onto a track?

Yeah, it dissapears
Most policies won't cover track events or timed events.
Most policies WILL cover driver safety training with a qualified instructor in the car.
Many tracks offer insurance for the day.

If you are going to a quattro club event don't worry about it...
it's instructor led driver training.
The key provision in my policy is TIMED events. Which seems to rule out auto-x, actually. But I've never clarified that for sure.

Comments on the driving school, if you're worried about that:
1. The course is NOT a competition -- it's a driver improvement class. The course will include, in conjunction with the practical field exercises which will occupy most of your time, classroom instruction on vehicle dynamics, legal aspects of vehicle operation, and the physics involved in driving a car;
2. All instructors are police emergency driver improvement ("PEDI") certified instructors through the Texas Engineering Extension Service ("TEEX");
3. There will be constant visual supervision of all participants during all phases of the class;
4. Upon successful completion of the course all students will receive a certificate from ETPA and a letter to give to their insurance company; and
5. SAFETY will be stressed above all other aspects of the class.
I can assure you that the class will be aimed specifically at driver improvement -- the skills necessary to make you the best driver you can be. Accident avoidance, precision manuevering, safely backing, etc., will all be woven into the instruction. I think your insurance company would want you to take the class!
Hope this helps. You are still planning on coming, aren't you?
