anybody remove the clear headlight cover? there's a glue-like seal...

Maybe you can remove it. I wouldn't attempt it as I think it is a sealed unit. See diagram.

I have removed one...
I had a broken headlight that I got to experiment with without having to worry about breaking it. The cover is a bitch to get off and you will probably break the headlight in the process.

If you do remove it - use a heat gun or hairdryer. The glue will reseal itself and you can augment
with silicon glue as well to completely reseal the unit. VW guys have been taking these things apart for a couple years. It's affectionately known as the "joey ghetto mod" and no i'm not the joey who originated it. Guys started doing this to paint the inner portion of the headlight black rather than spending $300 for a set of black painted aftermarket headlights.
