With things like this, I would say pay a little more for an enforceable warranty. Go to the HK outlet (below), in stead of buying from somebody with little or no accountability on eBay. Just my $.02<ul><li><a href="http://www.harmanaudio.com/">HK outlet</a></li></ul>

thus the request for Brad's link. Only thing is, I was looking at a Yamaha receiver.

I did buy my Basslink for my car through E-bay, but for some reason i don't feel as comfortable buying a receiver that way.

I bought an HK receiver off UBid but it was new from a dealer. Watch the shipping charges.

price range I would go with a lesser Onkyo or even Yamaha receiver over an HK, I know a number of people who bought them (typically because they were the best looking thing carried by Circuit City, etc.) and have regretted the purchase. Pretty shoddily made and quite expensive to have fixed. Just IMO, and all.

I need to upgrade to 5.1/7.1 ready receiver. From what I understand it will make a world of difference in movie playback.

My experience with ebay is that if you check the seller's rating and feedback and stick to sellers who write ads that are clear and intellegible (including an explanation of how they'll handle shipping charges), you'll be ok. Remember that, in most cases (for electronics not collectibles), you are buying used goods, so you should be paying used goods prices.
