Anyone ever sold their used car to Carmax?

yes and they paid fairly decent prices, excpet for my first TT
I think they pay higher prices for Japanese cars. For the first TT (2000) they were going to give me $1500 less than the dealer would, so I traded it in instead.

Dealers love to mix trades in with the purchase price of your new car. That way they are able to inflate the value of your used car. Keep the two transactions separate to determine what the dealer will actually give you for your car.
I've sold three cars to CarMax and in each case they paid me more than KBB excellent condition for my car. Sure I could have gotten more money if I sold it myself but it just wasn't worth all the hastle of advertising the car and having a bunch of strangers coming to my house. For example I had a friend who tried to sell his truck. On a weekend night he had three guys who were supposed to check out his truck. Not one guy showed up. A whole evening wasted. As I said not worth the hastle.
