Anyone have trouble with a Garrett or APR chip?
I was talking with my Audi mechanic/tuner this morning about my plans to chip my 180TTQC. He winced when I told him that I just sent my ECU out for a Garrett chip. I asked him why, and he said that both Garrett and APR chips go beyond the limits that the engine can handle. He stated that a couple of customers had major engine problems due to these chips (I can't quite remember what the problems were off hand). My question is, has anyone here experience problems with their chips, which chip, and how many miles have you had it installed approx.

If your mechanic said that, I would find a new mechanic...
The new Garrett X-chip would maybe make your 180 TT up to 210 HP. The 225 TT comes stock with 225 HP (Obviously). With more mods, you can get significantely more than that number. The software is not the problem.

I have the APR on a 180 FWD...
... and it throws a "system too lean" fault code, which I don't get without the chip. Note that the car drives anyway and is a lot stronger with the chip in, and it didn't do any damage, but my CEL comes on with the chip in.
I need to get my MAF looked at, but since I don't get the CEL without the chip, I can't take it to the dealer with the fault code on... darn.
It's not going to damage the engine, unless you put the wrong gas in (say, 87 on the 93 program). A good investment IMHO.

Keep in mind Imola, the 225tt has a larger turbo and with software upgrades
get up in the 250 hp range. My buddy's has this and other options too. Pulleys, short shifter, intake.... Car runs awesome so far!

Chip to engine related issues on this forum have been almost nonexsistent
Now thats not to say folks havent had em..But we are probably the 1% of TT owners out there who actually chip thier cars and I personally have seen no evidence of Chip damage to motor posts in all my time here.

Both Garrett and APR are responsible - APR is even more conservative and they will tell you
that every chip they make is well within the range that the engine can handle -- now other companies may not be able to say --
