Anyone here from Philly? or Lived there? Looking for some advice
as to where to live or not live with the TT. I'd like to be near UPENN if possible. However I'm not familiar with the area so I was looking for input as to where the best place to live would be. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated. Thanks

NOT near Upenn....
W. Philly would be VERY unsafe for a nice car. You should check out Olde City (3rd and walnut) area...great places to live, and it's the new 'in' place to hang out in philly

I live in NE philly>>
I guess it depends on a couple things. Do you work in the City, or going to school? If you live or work in the city you will have to pay city wage tax. But if you live outside the city you can get that back at the end of the year if you own a home. As far a commute, well thats another story.

gf will be attending UPENN in the fall...
I don't have a job lined up at this point, but she'd like to be 30min commute to school at most. I didn't know about the city wage tax - so Thanks for the info. Is driving a nightmare in the city?

You could always cross the river, there's a train from Jersey too...
Woodbury, depford, west depford, are nice towns. not sure about red bank.. Might help to avoid that 7% tax if you end up working in the city...
I do not know if you can get to Upenn within 30 minutes from jersey though...

here is the mass transit map for septa. I use to take the train when i lived just outside the city, both Patco Highspeed to New Jersey & Septa R5 from just outside the city. Highspeed line is a good train, mostly on time and I think the longest ride from end of the line is aprox 45 mins. Safe train also. Now septa is totally different story, usually safe trains depending on locations and stops. But also septa is usually always delaid somehow, by 5-15 mins.
Driving and parking will cost $$$. I sugest find your budget, train tickets, parking, commute, price of house etc. Right now New Jersey's taxes are crazy so be aware of that.
Hope that helps.
