Audi closes deals?
So, we (my firm) took some clients to the Sonics game on Monday night. Over drinks, one of the clients mentioned that his car has been vandalized (windshield smashed) many times, even though he lives in a nice neighborhood. I say "well, I certainly hope you don't have a fancy car.." to which he replied "yeah, I had a TT but I just got an A6. I love Audis. I miss my TT." Needless to say, this made for good conversation... and hopefully some deals down the road. I doubt the allegiance would have been so strong had we been talking about BMWs or MBs.

Bimmer fans are pretty hardcore too.
MB has lost a lot of their longtime fans lately. The quality has gone down bigtime and previous owners are finding it to be unacceptable. My father in law has owned S class cars for 15 years, now he's buying an A8 this summer. Probably Audi is the biggest benefactor of MB's quality control.

Re: Audi closes deals?
Funny. Yesterday, I was trying to get a few minutes of time with a construction estimator. While waiting in his hallway (15 minutes and counting...) I overheard the secretary mention that he just bought a new TT. It might not have closed the deal, but sharing war stories caught his attention and I know he will remember me next time I call.

Interesting observation. I had never owned an Audi until my TT ...
I had sold my Mercedes for it (not because I was unhappy with Mercedes ... Just liked the TT styling.) But now I'm back with Mercedes and it's solely because I hated dealing with Audi service and the little quirks in the car. Audi will certainly not be a long term 'benefactor of MB's quality control' if it doesn't clean up its own act. (Oh, and BTW, my Mercedes have been the most trouble freee of any that I've ever owned.)

You are right, Audi's service experience my hold them back
Especially the lack of loaner cars, what's up with that? My father in law is writing into his A8 sales contract that he will get either a Porsche or Audi A6 or better loaner car for any service taking longer than a few hours, this has been done before at this particular dealership.
This is a great opportunity for Audi to gain marketshare. It's funny that Mercedes is adopting BMW's "same sausage, different lengths" philosophy and Japanese style platform/parts sharing, and BMW is creating some very hideous styling and alienating longtime customers with electrical gremlins and controls that take weeks to learn at the same time. I'm sure audi will manage to drop the ball again, they certainly almost did with that growing coilpack issue.

"electrical gremlins and controls that take weeks to learn", a rocket scientist can figure it out.
