Default Audi TT: ESP light won't turn off

My ESP light won't turn off. What should I do?

Thanks.

Default Run (or drive), don't walk to your nearest dealer.

This is the first thing that went bad on my TT at about 4k miles. I think they called it the Haldex control module that had gone bad. This is bolted to the Haldex body and runs about $800, so I hope your car is still under warranty. It could be a number of things but this was what was causing my ESP light to continually stay on. If you don't want to go to the dealer you could find someone with a Vag tool and see what type of fault codes it is throwing. Good luck. -Doug

Can you tell if it's just the light, not the system?

An unplugged MAF is one of the reasons that light will stay on.

Unplugging the MAF lights up the ESP light? I thought it lit up the CEL. Weird.

Default Yeah, it'll throw a code in the Mark 60 control...>>

module telling you that there's a code in the engine control module. A disconnected MAF doesn't light the CEL all the time, I guess this is a way to get your attention.

In any event, you need to get the DTC's out of both control modules.

BTW, re-connecting the MAF won't instantly get the ESP light to go out. Takes at least two starts to get it to happen.

Default Check the fault codes

I had the same thing. The ESP light would come on a few seconds after starting the car and stay that way all the time. The fault codes detected meant the ESP sensors were not communicating with the ECU.

I had the ECU replaced at a fraction of the cost as a semi-guarantee treat by the dealer. Paid $200 instead of the $900 list price. We are offered just a one-year warranty here in Mexico.

Yep, same here. Just put it in yesterday and now I'm waiting for the Haldex module. I had a strange binding in the rear wheels at low speeds; feels like running over a rock. Service guy says probably related, but I'm not so sure.
