Default Audi TT Mk1 Crusie Control

Hello all,

I have been trying to fix the cruise control on my Audi TT Mk1 and have made some progress. Hence would like to share the information with you and also ask you for your help.

1. The first thing I did was to connect my diagnosis program and try to determine where the problem was. I checked the fault codes reported by the engine control module. The fault code "17977 - Cruise Control Switch (E45): Implausible Signal P1569 - 35-00 - -" was on the list (Please see attached file "rf1.jpg").

2. Next step was to click "Meas Block" and select group 66. Four fields came up; Speed, Bin. Bits, Speed, Bin.Bits (fields 1 to 4 from left to right - Please see attached file "rf2.jpg"). Then I pressed the clutch and brake pedals. I could see a bit flipping on pressing/releasing the brake pedal but none at all when the same check was repeated on the clutch. After fixing the clutch sensor (Please see attached file "rf3.jpg") I could confirm that a bit was flipping whenever the clutch pedal was pressed/released. Just to be 100% sure I checked fuse no. 5, cleared the fault codes, activated cruise control from within the diagnosis program using code 11436. I also pressed the speed set button on the stalk while at the same time holding the stalk sliding switch on the RES position. I read that this resets the cruise control function.

3. Cruise control still did not work, so I checked the control stalk. A bit flipped when the cruise control sliding switch was moved to the ON position. A bit also flipped when the sliding switch was moved to the RES position and when the speed hold push button on the stalk was pressed. I found out that when the cruise control sliding switch was moved to the ON position, bits in field no. 4 changed from 0000 to 0001 (as opposed to the expected value 0011 - I read various posts that state that this field should read 0011 when the sliding switch is moved to the ON position). This leads me to believe that the stalk itself is faulty given that I don't get a reading of 0011 in field 4.

Any ideas please?

Thank you.
