Audi TT reliability (electrical?)
Can anyone provide some advise as to the reliability of the 2002 TT. Consumer Reports said there are some electrical issues to be wary of. What are they? Anythng else to be cautious of?
Any help is very appreciated...
Thanks.

ask for a service history
an 02 would already display any gremlins it might have. Those that have troubles are usually chronic cluster issues, etc. If the service history is clean, I wouldn't worry about it.

The only probs with my TT in the last 4 years:
1. Had to replace the fuel sending unit twice. The first problem was that is was leaking gas! The second time, the gas gauge wasn't reading the fuel level properly due to the faulty fuel sending unit. Working properly for the last 1 1/2 years though.
2. The window goes down half way every once in a while when you want it to close. It used to aggravate the hell out of me, but now, i've learned to live with it. Always seems to fix itself after three tries, when that happens.

that sounds very inaccurate...
Here are the issues I have had with my 02:
Window regulator replaced
Front sway bar replaced
Radio replaced 3 times because of premature fading of buttons
Windscreen assembly replaced (creaking would not go away)
Headlight replaced because of chronic fogging that would not go away even with turning lights on
glove box replaced
door rattle fixed (I gave one of the tech a copy of Jeff Bipes instruction and he used it)
brake pads replaced 3 times
roadster top adjusted
cooling fan replaced
and a few other minor things
all this under warranty afterward the car has been like a dream out of warranty (knock on wood baby)
After warranty, my cluster started fading at 65,000 miles
The best thing to do is the evaluate or predict reliability based on past service history and availability of such records, as some have mentioned.
If the car you getr has been poorly maintained, electrical issues will be the least of your problems.

Thats my only problem so far, left window sometimes (once in a few month) doesnt want to close.

Most of the bugs were worked out by then.
I bought in Aug 2002 so it was made sometime mid year. No real electrical problems other than the occasional window auto-up malfunction which can be easily corrected and is printed in the manual. I've also had the coil paks replaced but that's more a documented part defect.
