auto x wheel &tire decision 17 or 18.....
I ran the first event won DS, on 245/45 17 hankook ventus v4 es, I like the oversize factor more ft fwd per rev, not crazy about using spacers, like to stay DS at least this year, while learning the car.I am not sure about weather i want to go to 18's or not, I do know I am going to need grippier tires though, to remain competitive especially at the prosolo this year.I was only 3 sec behind ftd this week, which was between a zink FM car, an SS ZO6, and a kid in a cart! next weeks is a much bigger lot A racetrack, with banking and a paved infield.

I don't know about the rest of you but my take on bigger rims means the bigger you go in rim size the more "un-sprung weight" you'll have to deal with. And that's never a good idea. It's like those dudes that take a car or a truck and stick some monster rims & tires underneath and wonder why it runs like a slug! Durrrr... And how come I can't stop!!! Double durrr.!
As a rule Every 1 inch you go up in diameter you add 10 to 12 pounds in un-sprung weight. Average.

but lower profile tires weigh less... in any event, an issue of grassroots motorsports
did a comparison of 16, 17, and 18 inch wheels and picked the 17 inch wheel for autocross, based on time. Best combination of weight and sidewall stiffness.
For tires, consider the Falken RT-615. It's 200 treadwear, which I *think* is required for stock.

18's kick you out of DS. Depends on how serious you want to go, and if you follow SCCA rules, then
use your stock setup, get the best shocks, fit the fattest tires on your stock wheels, and intall a straight pipe after the cat. That's the best you can do with DS.
If you are going ProSolo, you need Hoosiers.

You have to have the full ALMS package if you want to be legal. I don't recall nonQuattro ALMS also.
Typically, local events, no one protests unless you start winning, and they have an idea of the different variants your car came out with.
ProSolo, national champs play there. Again, you may get away if you are not competitive, but it's easier to get protested there even for an unapproved radiator cap.

You want quicker rev.'s? you might want to start here>
Also consider swaping out some gears to suit your tastes!! It doesn't have to be GMG but I think reducing "un-sprung Mass" is the best way to go quicker!

GMG lightweight Flywheel

oops, I thought I read fwd somewhere. The color shouldn't matter iirc, but you should have the ALMS
standard equipment installed in your car to meet the rules. Basically, you need to convert it to an ALMS just to run ALMS wheels, or 18" wheels with the same width and offset (+/- 5mm). Not worth it IMO.
Rule of thumb with changing stock items is if it is offered in your model year as a standard or optional item by the dealer, you can install it. The ALMS is a completely different offering, and the standard models were not offered ALMS options.
