Autocross setup/ESP questions
I plan on autocrossing my bone stock 225ttqc on Saturday. I need some recomendations for tire pressures (Kummho 712's) and ESP on or off?? Your feedback is apreciated. I have autox experience, but all with fwd vw's, I am still learning about the handling characteristics of this car.

Re: Autocross setup/ESP questions
Since you have autox experience, you may already know more than me! Anyway, here's what I've learned somehow...
ESP off. Ok starts usually come around 4000+ RPMs. I have a tendency to bog the car down when trying to launch around 3000.
As high as you can pump up the 712's tire pressure and decrease between runs if the tire isn't close to rolling over. How does 45 to 50+ PSI (cold) sound?
Leave at 3 PSI diff between front and rear for daily driving-type understeer or increase rears to promote oversteer (then adjust throttle and braking input accordingly...lots of snap oversteer available if the car isn't settled).
I'm still trying to get used to it with the tire pressures (especially the rears) being so high. You'll probably learn how to drive the TT faster than me by starting off this way, rather than my slow learning experience over the couple of years (timid driving hehe) and only finding out recently to pump the tire pressures UP! UP! UP! Not just 39/36 or 40/37 or 41/38. Higher! The car needs help turning, and I guess that's the strategy to help it.
Good luck and enjoy!

Definitely turn off ESP for autocrossing.
ESP may or may not come on in the turns, but it will almost always come on in a slalom, so you need to make sure it is off.
For tire pressures, there is obviously a lot of debate...Personally, I like to go with about 40f/40r. Any more than that in the front, and I find the car pushes way too much. The rears can go higher, but it will induce more oversteer.
FWIW, this is my 3rd season of autocrossing the TT.

If your ESP light is going off a lot, check your tire pressures. I noticed my ESP triggering this AM
