Default Bar loose front end of undercarriage?

Does anyone know what this bar is? I recently replaced my front tires and took a quick look at everything under there. I noticed that the bar circled in the picture was missing a bolt on one side and was loose. The bar spans from the passenger to the drivers side and has a bolt identical on the passenger side. What does this bar do? Does anyone know what size the bolt is for replacement?

That helps stiffen the unibody and minimizes flexing.
Is yours a roadster/soft top? If so, replace that bolt today!

I have a 2000 TT Quattro. I'd like to replace the bolt asap, I just don't know what bolt would equate a proper replacement!

Any ideas on the bolt replacement?

I would remove the one on the other end and take it to a parts house or fastenal store and get a match. Dealer might be able to look it up but I just tried and it is elusive in the parts listings that I can access.

Dealers have or will get the proper bolt. Hardness, corrosion resistant and dissimilar metal compatibility. Don't be fooled by the Metric hardware selection at Home Despot or Blowes.....
