Default 2001 225hp TT 6 speed swap INTO 2000 TT Quattro

I have a good 2000 TT Quattro with a 5 speed that is going on me. It is the only stock and original part on the car left and has over 300,000 kms on it so I understand. I was talking with my mechanic about throwing a 6 speed transmission from a 2001 225hp TT and he believed I would need to swap everything that the 2001 drivetrain has to offer. I recently bought a 2001 225hp with a good 6 speed in it. I bought it so I could just throw everything from the 01 into the 00 and be done with it. I also plan on using the 225hp with the 5 speed once swapped for a winter car as the 2000 is not stock and a bitch to get started and get warm in this Canadian winter…

I am just confirming for the 6 speed to fit into the 2000, I would need to swap everything, i.e. the transmission, transfer case, the differentials, the drive axels, the axels themselves, clutch, etc.

So the big question is: Do I need to swap everything or just some things? If its just some things, I'm still okay with buying this complete 225hp since it'll be a good winter car.

Let me know, advice or opinion is welcomed

Default My opinion. Never done it myself

You should be able to swap whatever parts you wish. There was discussion on another forum about a week ago that the clutches for the 5 and 6 speed are defnintely identical, so you should be able to swap only the engine.

If you can't get a satisfactory answer here, try the quattroworld or fortitude TT forums.

That is good to hear about the clutch, but I'm not looking to swap engines, I need to swap the transmissions but my thought process is that since the 6 speed has 1 more gear, the transmission will be longer, so the transfer case, the drive shaft and possibly the differentials and drive axels will be different or different lengths so they will need to be swapped as well.

It would quite a relief if all I had to do was swap the actual transmissions, not the other drivetrain parts, save a lot of labour time...
