Default Best way to clean a cat Convertor

Hello, Thinking i might have back pressure issues with the mk 1 tt

Whats the best way to clean the Cat Convertor? Leaving in place using chemical in fuel tank or removal of exhaust system and cleaning that way? or some other way?

Also anyone else had issues with bAckpressure?

Replacement is best. Or, remove and knock the element out with a long screwdriver or pipe and hammer. You will then get Check Engine Lights though.

Thanks for the reply. I was going to remove the Oxygen sensor and see if i can regain the acceleration. At the moment if i put my foot down the car shudders and slowly accelerates. Sounds like multiply misfire. Car was sat on driveway for about 6 months, as i work away with the navy. You got any ideas of what to check?

I have tried a few things so far. I replaced the air intake manifold just before i left, because i was replacing the alternature which had burnt out.

Mine just had that problem and it was a bad coil. What does VAG-COM say? Mine said Cylinder one misfire. Replaced all the coils ($30 each) and it's back to normal.

The coils are good, i replaced them last year. Its on multiple cyclinders which is the issue. I just taken out the oxygen sensor before the cat covertor and going to try and take the car for a drive and see if performance improves. If not then cat covertor may be okay.

I dont know if this is a well known way of diagnoiseing faulty cat convertor
