Default The big squeak! (long-ish)

OK, I pick up my 225TTR two weeks ago. I come to a red light and I downshift and then lightly brake to bring the car to a halt. I hear this long teeth jarring squeak. So I figure the brakes are new and need breaking in (no pun intended). A week goes by, still squeaking. Now I make an appointment to get it looked at (also had a door rattle that was driving me nuts (again, no pun intended)). I pick up the car the rattle is gone, but still sqeaking. I go back in and tell the service person, and she replies "we performed the "procedure" on the front brakes. They are too new to be replace and that was not covered". So I get the service manager he tells me they have to break in and it will go away, and that if it did not, to bring it back. Three weeks now, STILL SQUEAKING. Anybody out there have this happen. I just want to have some information before I bring it in again.

Thanks in advance.

Default There was a TSB on the Audi A4 for brake squeal and it recommended that

they turn the rotor's, chamfer the edge of the pads or replace if necesssary and use anti-squeal lube on the back of the pads for both front and rear. I'd at least bring this to the attention of the service manager, eventhough it isn't TT specific.

Default Me Too...

Mine's worse now after 3 months, but it started within a week!

Wierd thing is it doesn't happen when I brake hard, only when I ease to a stop, like creeping up to a trafic light or stop sign. Kind of embarassing really, all this money for the car and it squeals like a pig.

Default My dealer replaced my brake pads

20k on them and they were getting REAL LOUD. Had been to dealer many times to have them undercut & de-glazed. Dealer said that this time they were glazed & cracked so they replaced them. This is unfortunately a VERY common problem!

Default Mouse stuck in brakes?

Mine squeak occasionally, not always; usually only on first
few pedal applications of the day, much more likely if haven't used
the car for a few days, maybe after some moisture from rain and/or
car washing. Not a big deal - yet? - but only 2K miles on
the car so far... time will tell. I haven't noticed the brakes squeaking
on my wife's TTC at all so far.

I can't count the number of times I've heard
"my brakes squeak ... and on a car that cost X $$"
As far as I can tell, brake pads squeak - sometimes - on cheap cars,
and on expensive cars, and all cars in between.

Some seem to be better or worse than others, depending on the pads,
and half a dozen other things, but my (possibly-flawed) evaluation is
a) squeaking brakes don't necessarily signify much of anything about
the rest of the car, its design, its build quality, etc. - at most, they may
indicate a flaw or bad choice of brake components, and
b) most repair shops are too lazy or disinterested or cheap to do
much about it (I suppose understandable in cases when they aren't
getting much money for fixing or replacing things, although we
customers don't like it...).

In any case, don't accept a claim that "all brakes squeak".
They don't. Maybe all brakes squeak once in a while over the
life of the car. But most brakes don't squeak most of the time.
If they insist, request a demo drive in the shop manager's car,
and see if their brakes squeak; I bet you'll find that so-called
customer service people are much more willing to accept flaws
in someone else's car than they are in their own.
