Default Blueshirtt, you get that new DV yet?

Went back to the Turbo XS today, opened Forge up after using it for 10days to find oil had seeped (sp?) into area where the 2 pieces come together, and if oil could get in there air must be leaking imo.

OTTo if you are reading this, PES told me I only needed 3 washers. Whats the rational for a forth?

Default Yes, we installed it a little while ago . . .

it made quite a bit of difference. Mike will get some VAG runs in during the week. But the car is back to normal.

It is pulling strong with EVERY gear change to 2psi. When he backs off and then hits the gas again, it is back to 20psi. With the Forge it would slowly bleed down the boost from 19psi then to 14psi then to 9psi. It would never repeat the boost when staying in the same gear.

The other thing we noticed is the gauge is much more accurate now. The boost is also being held for a longer period of time before it slowly drops off.

Still need to tune the DV more, which is a nice advantage of it.

Pictures will follow later along with a review though not a major write-up. That will come later in the week.

Default 4th washer increases spring tension to hold it closed under more boost. Boost is limited by...

the software so overboost is not a concern. It is just to maintain more charged air staying in the fuel/air delivery system rather than back vented to the intake. As it was explained to me, it gives a little more positive hold until release. It sounded good and I don't get DTC's or cold start valve shutter, so I heeded that advice. PES is probably a better data source, but real world use is working out very well.

Default Hold off on it for a little while . . .

let Mike run some tests and then we will do a back to back comparison between it and the Forge and maybe if you want the Turbo XS. It is a very simple swap between the 3 of them.

Need to talk to Mike about that first.

Default Here are some pictures of the newest DV . . .

Two different ways to create a DV are implemented in these two designs. The Turbosmart just looks and feels more solid. It also seems to be holding the boost much better. It is a similar type of design that the Turbo XS uses, but is much more adjustable. It also looks like a better built unit. When you see it you will notice that as well. The piece has to weigh 1-2 pounds!

Do you adjust it by twisting the diaphragm/vacuum housing for spring tension? Turbo XS very similar

Default so you're running three washers in your turbo xs?

what rationale would a person need to determine their own need for one of these? would it be safe to say i need three as well?

Default I'm running 4 on a 225 which has a stock boost of 1 bar. A 180 runs stock at .8 bar. Based...

on the PES data, a chipped 180 running 1 bar (or maybe greater) through a K03 should be okay at 3 washers. My chipped K04 runs greater than 1 bar, hence the need for 4 washers and a little more spring tension to hold the PSI.
