On-board dianostic codes
Does anyone know if the code for the Engine Coolant Temp (ECT) is 51 or is it 49 on a 2000 TTQ? I have seen both and I want to make sure I getting the right reading. My instrument cluster is F/U and I want the reading from the on-board.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Code?
er.. sensor is G62
You want to read Block 4, right? (RPM,Battery Voltage, coolant Temp, Intake Temp)
Operational range -48.0 to 143.0
You can have VAG Code 16501 (Low Volt) or 16502 (Hi Volt)
Not sure what you are asking specifically...

Re: Code?
Sorry, when I said both 49 and 51 I meant I have seen 2 different lists posted on here. I hope that clears it up. I will also repost a earlier message and see if you can help me with that. Thanks!

Re: NP
Sorry for the long post...I have posted a few times about my coolant warning light coming on and my temp gauge almost all the way to the right, but my car not over heating per se.
Well, today I used the on-board diagnostics and used 51(ECT) and even though my temp gauge was near buried to the right and the coolant temp waring light came on, along with the fan, my engine coolant temp never went above 90c, which as I understand is normal.
Here is my question, when the gauge gets between 3/4 and H does that trigger the ECT warning light? Also, does the temp gauge trigger the fan? FYI, my gas gauge always reads more than I really have, so I know my cluster is F/U. How much will it cost to replace my cluster if anyone knows.
Thanks,
Jon

I _think_ the Temp gauge triggers the fan.
but if you are running the AC, the fan is on all the time also.
Replacing clusters can get up to 1k.
Do you have a vag-com?
hmm.. not sure about this but if the thermostat got stuck, can the engine temp rise over the coolant temp outside of the block?
Have you tried taking it to a Audi Tech or the dealer?

Re: for @$@! and giggles, did you try replacing the ECT sensor?
I am going to have that done next week first before replacing the cluster....Hmmm let me think, a $6 dollar part vs $1000
