boost controller questions >>
hey folks.
car is running great. I do, however, experience surging under wide open throttle. 23psi > 18psi > repeat. It always did it a bit (don't know why other stage III'ers haven't complained about it - Losz excluded) but, since I added the VTDA it does it a bunch.
I'm in the market for a boost controller to smooth out the power delivery and keep me from teetering under WOT.

Just want to know who runs what and how it's working out for you.
Thanks

Sounds like he does not have a boost machine, that is a proposed fix? I think it would indeed help,
but if the surging is caused by a malfunction, you should get that fixed before covering it up with a BM or other controller.

you could run the boost machine into the cabin...
I have actually been planning on doing this for sometime now, but I'm too damn lazy. I think you could drill out and widen the access hole above the accelerator, where most people run their boost gauge lines. then just run the boost machine lines in through there. The only con then would be that the boost machine is not asthetically pleasing so it would need to be somewhere discreet but within reach. I was thinking of mounting it to the back upper bolt on the aluminum frame knee bolster things.

i thought i heard somewhere that if the lines were too long
strange things would happen, perhaps even loss in effectiveness. i could certainly be wrong, but i would imagine that since the lines flex this might be true.

The Boost Machine is pretty much set-it-and-forget-it. Why do you need it in cabin? I agree the
Greddy is a gadget, so it's cool, but then you need to find a discreet mounting location, which is near impossible in the TT cabin.
I adjust twice per year, if that. No need for in cabin adjustment IMHO.

Andrew....On the surging..>>
I have a VW guy installing a BM This week for just that issue... I'll report back once we have some results..
Seems Surging issues are quite common among the VW guys...I'm not sure anyone has really come up with a definitive fix yet. A BM should smooth the delivery to the Wastegate actuator which theoretically should help. The electronic controls are still solenoid based (Just like the current N75) so may not be the ultimate solution...
