Default Braking in snow

Driving around this weekend in the snow, I found it very difficult to stop both in deep snow and lightly dusted streets. When I first got my TTQ last winter, I experienced the same problem and was told by Audi that the brakes needed to be "broken in". I know my TT has ABS, but surely the brakes are not suppose to pump that much?

Comments?

What tires are you running? The original Potenza RE040 tires do not have a snow rating.

Agreed. Everyone says the RE040 are really really bad in the snow. This weekend I found I was pretty secure on the road but I would certainly think twice about snow tires if I actually HAD to drive it.

Default Unfortunatley that is the way our "wonderful" ABS system works .. .

pathetic isn't it? I have my ABS checked out EVERY time I have a service done. So, it has been checked 6 times at 3 different dealers. They have said the ABS works fine.

I don't believe it to be honest. Mine is constantly coming on, even when it is dry out! I read on another forum that you can turn the ABS off by pulling the correct fuse. I am going to investigate that to see if the braking in the snow and the dry improves or not.

Default That doesn't sound right to me.

I mean, I'm no expert on ABS or anything, but I know how often my ABS comes on. I've NEVER had the ABS come on when the roads are dry or wet. It has only come on when there's snow or ice on the roads, and when it does, it does exactly what it's supposed to: stop the car without sliding all over the place.

I dunno...Maybe you brake a lot harder than I do, but I've never had ABS come on while on a dry road, even when braking pretty hard.
