To build a monster or not to... the turbo is the question??
Hey everyone. As some of you know, I'm in the midst of placing a order to do some major upgrades on my 2000 180 FWD TT. I'm down to two choices:
1) Neuspeed's SuperK04 Turbo Kit w/man ($2300) 265hp (21psi)
2) ATP's GT28R Kit complete w/cat ($2500) 300hp+ (22psi)
*I need some final votes and thoughts. All research now shows either kit will fit my car with very little added mods if any. The TAP3 chip I'm running max's at 16psi but will run either turbo very well. The 5bar FPR should make up some. If I add new 425cc injectors, and new programming, I can take advantage of the whole thing. My concerns are as follows, and I want to know if you guys feel the same.
1) The GT28 (although Ball B.) still spins up slower meaning I don't hit a full power band until around 5k. Most city driving means I'll never see it... at the track however, it would be a very different story.
2) The NS is much smaller, has the injectors included and may prove to be a better daily driver, although still a wimp against a porsche.
3) MOST significantly, while my inner voice is saying, GO for the GT28, I certainly don't want to find myself destroying my tranny and drive line with this kind of HP. Is that a real concern???
Thanks all,
Jim J

Re: IIRC, the GT28 hit full boost before that....more like 4000-4500rpm
This is what I'm thinkin too... (forgive my ignorance) What does IIRC stand for? Also, do you think I'll tear up my drive line with this???
Buy the way, very nice looking cab.

You should check out the VWVortex 1.8t tech forum. Those guys have done alot
of turbo upgrades on transverse 1.8Ts. Mostly VWs, but there are a few TTs. The biggest issue that they always have is the programming, but they have also come up with some very creative solutions.
