Default Calling all tecno geeks! ;-) I have a major Jones to get a new Mac G4 Powerbook...

I have a 20" flat studio display from my cube, so maybe I don't need the full 17" model. I want to get just one computer for desktop and travel. Any thought, comments, ideas and reviews greatly appreciated! Thanks :-)

Default I understand, best tool for the job. I would go with the the 17 or at least the 15....

The 12 inch model just seems too small especially for any kind of graphic work(if you had to do anything on the road) and the 17 is still very small and light.....

Default I was thinking the 15" with the faster processor

but for not that much more you do get the big screen. the part I can not make sense of is the graphic card/dram differences?

Default The 17 is definately the fastest. The 15's are based on old technology for SDRAM which means....

they also have other old technology(system bus, etc.) The 17 also has the best Graphics of the bunch.

The 12 inch is based on newer tech, just like the 17, its just a little slower.

Default you do realize that the P4's are outperforming even the dual G4's?

And this is with software like photoshop.

Ive been eyeballin the G4 powerbooks for a while...and i cant get over the crappy warranty/support, lack of service/parts centers, lack of performance (g4 powerbooks 1ghz), shipping delay (6-8weeks) and having to learn a new os (even though i use a mac at work, its the little things that I will have to figure out again) Even with those concerns of mine...if the apple configurator says that the 17" will ship in 1 day...i might go for it

But hey, it sounds like your a Mac fan..go for it!

Default ive seen some bech tests done on the 12,15, and 17" and the 15" was the consistent best performer

surprising to me as well. The ati9000 in the 15" is quite a nice vid card. Whatever you do, load it up with memory.
