Calling: Jeff Bipes...inquiry about electronics
One of the features I love about the TT
is being able to play the radio or cd's while the car is not running. People are shocked by this for some reason.
Pretty nifty feature. Unfortunately, I can't do the same thing with the ragtop. Do you know how this could be done? Would there be some re-wiring involved to be able to put the top down without having to turn on the ignition??
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I checked out your site, cool stuff. I love the LED taillight idea. Might even try it out.

According to 2002 diagrams, the top uses a hydraulic pump that is connected to 12V permanent...
already. The pump relay and associated electronics is handled by the central locking module that also has permanent 12V. Also, all top sensors and switches are handled for this same computer.
This module is K line (VAG-COM) accesible, so perhaps there is some code to reprogram this. You should ask to some Audi service, and if you are *VERY* lucky, you may find the right person that can do this for you.
Another way around is creating your own top controller and rewire all those swiches and sensors, but that looks a hard and expensive solution.
Sorry I can not help more.
Rick.
