Default car stereo question for larry (and anyone else with some knowledge on amps)...

since i've upgraded virtually all of the rest of my tt audio system, i'm considering changing my amp (this would be the second upgrade -- i removed the oem system long ago)...under consideration are:
jl audio jl3004
eclipse 32440
xtant 603x

what i really need is a good quality 3-channel amp to run the front component speakers (mb quart) and the subwoofer (jl audio). i'm not looking for max spl -- just clean sound (that remains clean when the windows and sunroof are open).

this would replace the existing kicker amp that is located on the back of the right rear seat in my ttqc.

any thoughts or suggestions?
thanks!

Default I have the 603x in my car and love the clean clear sound from it.

Not familiar with the other two, but as far as I know JL is more known for speakers/subs than amp and other components. Eclipse is supposed to make some very nice components.

Default Have you looked at Alpine at all? Anyone?

A warehouse store here just got in some super-discounted audio gear from a fire recovery.
I bought some MB Quart's for the fronts and rears, at huge savings. These were sealed in the factory boxes, way under list. The RSD-216's fit perfectly in the front doors.
I'll wait till spring to do the rears and the amp.

They have an Alpine 5 chan. MRV-F357 amp listed at $449, minus 40%.
I'm thinking this one to power the fronts, rears and sub.
Any thoughts on this?

Default a/d/s? I used to use RF - but they have fallen out of favor as of late

MTX for raw power...I'd probably use a/d/s powerplates or Hifonics if I ever do a sound system in my TT...I would stay away form Alpine from personal experience - whats wrong with the kicker? Also - if you have room - I would run a separate sub amp (maybe a DEI class D) and then a nice clean a/d/s for the comps...

Default I used to do installs and had many failures with their products

in their amplifier range. I just think there are much better products out there for the $$...also - too many gadgets and switches and buttons for my tastes - I like amps that amplify with little fanfare. YMMV.

I had that amp before I had the Xtants, for me it was a little muddy, and it didnt put out enough to the the sub.

Default I like MB quart in a kick panel - with the tweet as close as it is

in the stock location they sound bright to my ears. I think I'm going CDT this time.

Default if i had the room, i'd run a seperate sub amp as well...but i'm not sure where...

i'd put it...i use the back seats (at least for a few more years for my daughter), so i can't take them out...i've got the alpine nav unit in the pocket in the right rear where the first aid kit goes...i've got the xm radio tuner inside the left rear of the hatch (next to where the antenna/phone coupling are)...and the current amp on the back of the right rear seat -- now i'm out of room (time for an all-road?).

a/d/s/ has a good reputation -- i'll take a look.
thanks
