Default Car won't start this morning.. this car is pissing me off.

This is the first time the car has not started. The engine won't crank but headlights turn on but the radio says "code". The battery reads a little more than 12V on the meter so it seems that the battery is ok. Also, I parked the car outside and its been getting pretty cold now in the mornings. And when its cold outside my door latch won't work from the inside. I need to roll down the window to open the door from the outside. I can deal with mechanical stuff (sway bar bushing creaking, worn ball joints, strut bearings, wheel bearings, etc) its the 'gremlins' that I can't stand and it seems like the car is getting worse. I know my cluster is going out since my fuel gauge is too optimistic. But now my temp gauge seems to be going also as it was providing wrong readings as well. I have never seen a car before with so much electrical problems, and it seems like nobody has a real solution or explanations why such problems exist in this car. Im handing this car off to my wife's niece and even then I feel bad for giving a problematic car.. This will be my first and last audi/vw car. I was looking at the new GTI's and while the performance is great somehow I have a feeling that down the road those cars will show the same electrical issues. I am not sure if vw/audi have made their car more reliable in these models.

As Hans said, most likely the battery... How old is the battery?

Default My battery gave out today too

My in service date was 10/31/02 - so five years on the OEM battery is all I could expect.

My symptoms were a weak turnover this morning, followed by a weaker turnover at lunch. When I left to take it to the shop I was parked facing downhill just in case. It barely turned over.

Once started it runs fine - I'm pretty sure it's just the battery.

Also - on the last start voltage went low enough to send the trip computer back to a reset condition.

Check the voltage when you try and crank. It's probably dropping
