I thought the belly pan on the A6 was sadistic. The TT has twice as many fasteners.
And you almost need to pull the engine to get the damn filter! I was able to get it off with an end-cap wrench but then bobbled it around trying to find an exit path, dribbling hot oil the whole time. Finally found a route toward the front of the car. Thank goodness its a 10,000Km, 2 year filter; I'll skip it next time around. (Flame on!)
Feels good to have it done, though. Bought the car this summer (CPO) and despite assurances, I never believed that they Audi dealer did anything to prep the car.

This is probably an old, well known trick, but......
I just did mine for the first time yesterday, too! I unhooked the lower rad. hose from it's "clip" at the front and was able to pull the filter out there. Of course, that was AFTER spilling the entire contents on myself and trying to break off whatever that circular device is with the wires leading into and out of directly below the filter!! Geez!!

i agree....it's a huge PITA....the biggest problem for me was getting the filter loose!
next time you could try pulling the filter out the top of the engine bay. you can rest the filter vertically after you remove it, then pull it out from the top. it's much easier (IMO), and you don't spill very much oil that way.

The main reason I do it myself is that I know what's been put in the car, and I know...
... that it's been done right. I've seen Audi dealers put absolute junk oil in cars, and claim that it's "fine." I just don't trust them. It's also a zen thing. I feel good knowing there's fresh synthetic zipping through the turbo!
