Check engine gauge on ?

Happened a few weeks ago...it was the gaz cap not screwed well..light turned off. Came back on yesterday while driving...notthing unusual on the car....checked the gaz cap...its ok...light still on. Weather up here is in the -20-30 C. Thanks for any help, since my dealer is 200 miles away and told me not to do anything...it will go away (like a good doctor !!).

When I get a CEL it's usually one of three things...

1) overfilled gas or loose cap
2) MAF needs to be cleaned /possibly changed
3) DV needs to be lubed(aftermarket DV only)/ possibly changed (OEM)
It could be any of these or possibly something else. If the car is running OK wait & see. If it continues to be a problem do a search about MAF cleaning & DV service or make the trip to the dealer.

you need to be a bit more patient for responses. but about the problem >>

If it is the gas cap or anything else it takes what Audi describes as three trips of reasonable length to reset it. Basically take the gas cap off and put it back on, and see if the light is still on in 3 days. If it doesn't go away, go for service.

You might want to make a service appt. anyway now and just cancel it if the light goes out, so that if it's another problem you'll already have the appt.
