Default Check engine light....

Hey guys I just recently got an 00 1.8l audi tt. I have had a it for a coupleof days and the check engine light came on. I took it to autozone, and he hooked it up to an OBD 2 sensor and it came back with the following error:

P4022, something about a rich gas mixture.

Could this possibly be the problem?

Sounds like a bad MAF. Around $150 to replace yourself.

wrong. bosch sensors sell on ebay for about 60 bucks shipped. You are an idiot if you buy it from a dealer or parts store.

I would clean your maf sensor with some cleaner then clear the code. I just realized, my expensive intake has that hose opened up as well, but i have no codes going. clean it off, and you should be good.

You'll be happy to know, most of the "idiots" have left this place and gone elsewhere. Unfortunately, that leaves it open to, well.... smart guys like you to provide advice.

To the OP, The code must have been P0422 - Main Catalyst,Bank1 Below Threshold. Do a search and you'll find lot's of info.

That open tube goes to the SAI (Secondary Air Injection) pump and should have a breather filter or something on it. If something big enough gets in there, well that would suck.

pardon. Was speaking generalities not trying to step on toes or insult anyone. a New MAF costs 50 bucks from online vendors, 150-200 from sharks.

Yep, got a MAF from O'Reilly for about $60. Same warranty as new and it works just fine.

You might want to also check your Coolant Temp Sensor, too.

Just tossing that out there.

I am a little confused, which is ok. What exactly is for $60; is it the MAF sensor itself or the entire MAF housing with the sensor. I am yet to find a place that sells the sensor separately, and $60 seems very cheap for a brand new unit given some of the prices I have seen from competitive online stores.

Thanks.
F.

A rebuilt MAF sensor and housing cost me about $60. Same warranty to be had (1 year) and it works just fine - yeah, I log data via my VAGCom and it is just fine.
