Default Check engine on, tech said it was O2 sensor need some advice, thanks.

So my check engine came on the other day after a rough cold start took it to my mechanic and he read the codes said there are two codes, bank 1 o2 sensor was (heavy) and one other code that slips my mind that he said was probably triggered by the o2 sensor, he turned the light off but after a couple days its back on now.

So I was thinking of changing the sensor my self, but I suspect I need a vag com type of tool to monitor the sensor and turn the light back off?

I saw some vag cables and software on ebay, is this the best least expensive way to go?

also for the o2 sensor i read getting the Bosch 16109 Oxygen Sensor from Amazon currently $79 is the best way to go for that? I'm still looking for the replacment instructions if they are posted on the forum.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Default There are two O2 sensors. One right behind the engine and one under the car.

You should probably figure out which one it is before you go replacing it...

You can buy one of those cables, or you could alternately pick up a ScanGaugeII from the Modshack -- great little thing, and all sorts of convenient.

Default Ok so sounds like...

1. I need a vag tool ebay ones are iffy but cheap or get the ScanGuage (I assume i can read codes and clear them with it)

2. Figure out which o2 sensor it is (im pretty sure its the pre cat one

3. If pre-cat I need the o2 sensor tool Patterson used and replace the sensor, is it a straight replace with this guy (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BZJ9WE) do i just need to shave the tab plug and play?

Do you guys know if there are any pictures of the replacement?

Thanks again.

Default These work fine for just reading codes and reseting CELs

As to the O2 sensor, I bought the real deal from World Impex.<ul><li><a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Automotive-Tools__AUDI-VW-Auto-Scanner-OBD-II-2-OBD2-OBDII-Skoda_W0QQitemZ200269620294QQadiZ2871QQadnZAutomot iveQ20ToolsQQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Automotive_To ols?hash=item200269620294&amp;_trksid=p450
