Default Clutch or throw out bearing problem?

This morning I'm driving the neighborhood streets on my way to work, maybe 20mph in second gear. All of a sudden I hear a strange noise from the engine bay.

It sounded like an old industrial fan with bad bearings, metal on metal, a little hollow, sometimes loud and sometimes not.

I came to a stop and it went away. Let out the clutch in neutral and it came back a bit, but much quieter. I engaged first gear and got underway, it came back louder.

So I pulled over to think. I decided to head back home but the noise went away. Has not happened since in about 15 miles of local driving.

My service advisor booked me an appointment for Tuesday.

Thoughts anyone?
