Picked up the TT today, they were going to pull it around and the battery was dead, some young kid, sorry, was putting a jump box on it to get it started, aparently someone left the lights on? That's what they said. Then I inspected there work. They never attached this part to the hanger and it was just floating there:

Glad I checked, they would have blamed me for that.

Now the real meat of the story. They said the coil pack was damaged because they could move the lower part, section with all the holes. It was broken at the arrow. Excuse me but after looking at it, it looks like that lower part is all rubber and is supposed to move, am I wrong?

I can see why they would deny warranty if your car is modded - since higher effective compression ratio via higher boost levels requires more energy from the coil to ignite the plug. Also, improper plugs or too large of a gap and too cold of a plug will require additional energy also. Coupled to engine heat which will rise with high boost also, it can stress the ignition coil.

But if it is mechanically damaged most likely by sloppy extraction to replace plugs, was that done by a dealer?

My thoughts exactly, I assume one stops by the dealers from time to time.

The only one who has done any repairs is the dealer. I have 19k miles, this is the third coil pack to fail. They say it is damaged because they can move the lower part of the coil pack. It looks like it is all rubber and should move so there would always be proper alignment to the plug when inserting the coil pack. I would assume it shouldn't be ridged all the way or there would be a chance for craking in that area.

seen it before lots of times. Coil goes bad and comes apart right there and copper winding goes everywhere.

I don't understand why warranty is not covering that. Any VW or Audi tech that has been around for at least a few years has surely seen that before.

which is the spark plug "wire" or connector with built in 2K resistance, from the upper part, ignition coil body.

Not on our TT, but a DBW A4, I remember trying to pull the lower part out, but it felt rigid, so I stopped.

I'm sure it would have slight movement. But if the dealer claims it is broken at that area and they were the only ones to work on it, then it is them who is at fault. The coil shouldn't move during operation since it is bolted in our cars.

popped in, I guess like B6 A4's. So it's hard to say how this would get damaged over time.
