People can shun me and think i'm being unreasonable but I believe bad info should be called out immediately every time without fail so people can learn the truth. This was the first time in my life I just went nuts buying parts without thoroughlly researching it otherwise i'd have never purchased that kit.

Alldata has surprised me many times over the years and they've always been right with oem part numbers IME, combine that with the fact rockauto is saying the same thing I guarantee they're right. I have no patience for people giving bad advice and stating it as fact when it comes to anything auto repair related. I'm not trying to argue I couldn't care less who you mislead, but it wont be me. Larger forums are filled with a **** ton of bad advice. Smaller forums with low production or low interest cars have been the best forums for raw knowledge i've ever experienced.

The reality is I never should've started a thread about a timing belt service I was just in a good mood. All this info can be found easily, I just didn't want to miss anything since these motors are complex. I need answers to things that aren't found easily or at the very least direction tuning wise and diagnostic software wise. If I had spare time I would just lurk and read and compare but I don't.
Yikes dude. Nothing I said was in any capacity designed to get you riled up - it was just friendly advice from someone who has done all of the work you're going to do and has made mistakes along the way. There is no reason to point your frustration at me over info you think is correct but isn't actually based on 21 years of enthusiast discussion and work.

The correct part number for the thermostat is 050121113C, not the B variant as was installed in your car. The OEM thermostat opens at 102C and closes at 87C. I understand that the shop you took the car to is a German car specialist but Indy shops make mistakes sometimes - it's happened to me - and the information I give to people always comes from a reliable source, aka the factory diagrams and parts lists. I'm not even saying that you can't run an 80C thermostat because you can do whatever your heart desires, but the fact of the matter is that the 1.8T operates optimally between 87C and 102C.

The next time you want to break out in a self-righteous rage and blindly accuse people of lying (with no evidence of course) do so somewhere else. Your response and tone are completely unjustified in a situation where people are just trying to help you out because you asked for it.
