Default Ok, I took your advice. I found a coupon code for Crucial...

That gave me free FedEx 2nd day air shipping, plus a 10% discount. So the total for the 128mb of RAM came to about $34. I can add that to 128mb RAM that I already have, plus the resident 64mb, and that will bring me to 320mb.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds like you can't beat that price!

Not unless you use photoshop on 60+ Meg images or keep 6+ programs open at once

Default It's tough to find any company doing business today with those credentials...

and they just sent me a survey today and I gave them glowing marks.

Default Re: Computer memory question...

Max ram is usually limited to 512Mb because Intel support chipset has that delimiter to differentiate consumer pc from servers.

Check the voltage rating on the SODIMM's. I know of folks who have used Crucial but ended up with laptops that reset due to crucial memory running at the upper end of the voltage rating and with a GEForce2Go nvidia 3d graphics on the laptop, the system ends up with brown outs and shuts down.

I use crucial myself, but I don't have the nvidia graphics chip on my dell inspiron 8000. I have the ATI chipset and have no problems. Mushkin makes SODIMM's that use very low voltage and a lot of folks report good results with those memory chip.

Default There is no such thing as to much memory. one thing you should check

while your old memory might be compatable with the laptop, is it compatible with the memory that's in there? YOu can mix pc133 and pc100 but everything performs as pc100 at that point. So while you could have more memory which is always good, it could be slower than the system is capable of.
